About ‘Once Upon a Boat’
The idea for ‘Once Upon a Boat’ arose in the summer of 2014 and comes from a love for the sea, Ibiza and a sense of freedom. We, Hugo and Marlot, decided to dive into an adventure together…
For us ‘Once Upon a Boat’ is more than just a boat rental company. We take people out for a day of sailing on our boat in Ibiza and Formentera, but at the same time the boat serves as our home. So we are not only working, but also living on the water.
Living on a sailboat is slightly different, our house is moving on the waves and we are always on top on the weather forecast. We love it, because can it get any better than waking up with a dip in the sea, our backyard?
Where most boat rental companies in Ibiza and Formentera do offer a whole fleet, we are an outsider with one boat. The advantage is that we can personally ensure that you will have an unforgettable day out at sea.
Once on board, there is time to enjoy the scenery, have a drink, catch some sun and enjoy the feeling of being at sea. We hope that everyone feels like home with us on the boat. With friends or family aboard you get the chance to spend time with each other and be completely ‘off the radar’ for a day.
“Always be yourself, unless you can be a pirate. Then always be a pirate.”
Hugo & Marlot
Hugo – Captain
Hugo, the proud captain of the boat, was born in Buenos Aires but is an Ibiza resident for more than fifteen years already. He likes to go for a ride on his mountain bike and loves good food, especially if it’s prepared on the barbecue
During the winter months he is working for the ‘Semana del mar’ (week of the sea), where he takes schoolchildren from Ibiza out for sailing and introduces them to the wonderful world of the sea. Hugo has been navigating the waters of Ibiza and Formentera for over a decade. He will make sure you will feel at ease during your cruise and have an unforgettable day.
Marlot – Public Relations
Making your booking you will probably be in contact with Marlot. Yogi and anthropologist with a love for foreign cultures and southern realms. Born in Holland, but did previously learn Spanish in Granada (southern Spain) and worked in Costa Rica for a small travel agency.
In order to finish university in Holland she decided to come to Ibiza and write her thesis about sustainable tourism. She was supposed to stay for just three months, but seven years later she still not tired of the fascinating island Ibiza.
